Can you believe it's already Week 5?
I feel like just the other day I was laughing at people who took Kareem Hunt in the second round and applauding those who took Amari Cooper. Eek.
Regardless, I would like to take a second to apologize to you guys. I'll even let you in my personal life a bit. If you'd like to bypass it, just keep scrolling down until you see the rankings table. I don't mind.
My intentions on FantasyFusion during the 2017 season were, at a minimum, a rankings article, a waiver wire article, a start/sit article, Mike's betting article, and maybe a Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) article, though I've been awful at DFS this year so that's probably for the best.
If you've been paying attention, that didn't happen.
In early August, known as fantasy draft season in layman's terms, I bought my first house. Time that was supposed to be spent analyzing target trends and breakout candidates immediately turned into time spent re-painting doors and trips to Home Depot and getting rid of spiders. I literally hate spiders now. I'm not afraid of them at all, but they're everywhere. They're encroaching on my territory and I've had enough. Also get out of my mailbox.
We still launched the draft kit, albeit an abridged version, and I made sure above anything to stay active on Twitter (@DonaldGibsonFF for those of you that were directed here from somewhere else). With that, I think I succeeded.
Still, I wanted more.
I was promising more.
I couldn't deliver more. I wanted content for my website, and I wanted content for the readers.
We got through the offseason, Donald still doesn't have air conditioning, and I foolishly convince myself that I'll right the ship. I'll pump out the articles. I'll stay on top of the rankings. I'll do all that other crap. Who needs sleep?
Nope. Still didn't happen. Between my full-time job picking up (immensely) in the fall and the aforementioned house crap along with all of the other recurring things in my life, there just wasn't any time. Also, my new bed is incredibly comfortable so you can go ahead and shave another half an hour off my daily available time. It won the sleep association yada yada best mattress of whenever, so it's not a game.
The rankings+waiver+starts+DFS article plan quickly became a rankings+? plan, which is where I've been since the season started. All I've provided is my rankings and interactions on Twitter - really nothing more.
I'm done with it.
I foolishly became content with what FantasyFusion had become. I had a core group of readers, my friends would promote it, maybe some other people would swing by, whatever. Instead of an analytics-driven fantasy football site, it became a home for my rankings and not much more. When I was trying to get into the business over at Football.com a few years ago (now providing exclusively Football content - like the European kind with the round ball), I would kill myself over data and standard deviations and z-scores and whatever the hell else I could get into to prove that I knew what I was talking about and I had numbers to back it up. Now I just make jokes about Brandin Cooks. They're absolutely necessary, but still.
I got away from that, and for that I really do apologize. FantasyFusion isn't what I wanted it to be, nor is it what you deserve. The fantasy football industry is overflowing with absolutely excellent content, and you chose to come here. I really do appreciate that.
SO here's the plan. I have an article coming out (probably) Friday with a guest contributor from another fantasy site. It will be hosted here and linked to his site, and it will be about DFS. As I mentioned earlier, take everything I say with a grain (scratch that, bucket) of salt because I've been horrid at DFS this year. I'm not trying to undermine my credibility; I've actually hit very well on the value guys (J.J. Nelson, Jared Goff, Tyrell Williams, etc.), but I always pick the wrong studs. Whatever.
This is how my schedule is going to look:
1) Snap Counts/Whatever I feel like talking about - Tuesday
2) Rankings - Wednesday; updated constantly
3) Start/Sit - Thursday
4) DFS - Friday
5) Wallow in regret - Sunday
Homeowner Donald is being a little shit and I've had enough of it.
In all seriousness, I do appreciate you visiting FantasyFusion, whether you come everyday and click on the ads (love you) or this is your first time and, luckily, you walked in on a pity party (love you too).
I'm going to start doing my best for me and doing my best for you.
Rankings! Here we are, finally. As I mentioned above, they're always here and they're always on FantasyPros.
I was lucky enough to go to London last week to watch literally the worst performance by the Baltimore Ravens ever, but the city was great and the trip was awesome. I apologize if I was a bit off the radar and/or distant, but that's because I was...literally...distant.
Anyway, Week 3 saw loads of scoring - a lot of which was predictable and even more that came out of nowhere. Here's to trying to nail down some of those guys this week.
My rankings are always updated here and on FantasyPros up to 1 o'clock EST on Sunday, so be sure to come back for more.
P.S. wasn't crazy about London beer. It has a weird aftertaste. Feel free to @ me @DonaldGibsonFF.
We both know why you're here. Rankings can always be found here or on FantasyPros. Have at 'em. Oh and follow me on Twitter @DonaldGibsonFF.
I feel like I write this every year:
Week 1 was weird. SO. WEIRD.
Week 2 will be better? Maybe?
Check out my rankings here or on FantasyPros and don't hesitate to reach out on Twitter @DonaldGibsonFF
I'll spare you the cliche about persevering through hardship, though that is exactly what we've done since the Super Bowl.
Football is back.
My rankings are found below and will be updated constantly until 12:59 PM EST on Sunday. Keep an eye out for a start/sit-esque column where I'll outline the guys that I like more than most.
As always, feel free to harass me in the Twittersphere @DonaldGibsonFF
